WinRoute enables automatic check for new versions at the Kerio Technologies website. Whenever a new version is detected, is download and installation is offered.
Open the Update Checking tab in the Configuration / Advanced Options section to view information on a new version and to set parameters for automatic checks for new versions.
Information on how much time ago the last update check was performed.
If the time is too long (several days) this may indicate that the automatic update checks fail for some reason (i.e. access to the update server is blocked by a traffic rule). In such cases we recommend you to perform a check by hand (by clicking on the Check now button), view results in the Debug log (see chapter 13.5) and take appropriate actions.
Use this option to enable/disable automatic checks for new versions. Checks are performed:
2 minutes after each startup of the WinRoute Firewall Engine
every 24 hours
if the connection to the server cannot be established, update checks are attempted avery hour unless the connection is established successfully
Results of each attempted update check (succesfull or not) is logged into the Debug log (see chapter 13.5).
Enable this option if you want WinRoute to perform also update checks for beta versions.
If you wish to participate in testing of WinRoute betaversions, enable this option. In case that you use WinRoute in operations in your company (i.e. at the Internet gateway of your company), we recommend you not to use this option (betaversions are not tested yet and they could endanger funcionality of your networks, etc.).
Click on this button to check for updates immediately. If no new version is available, user will be informed about this fact.
Whenever a new version is detected automatically, corresponding information will be provided in the licensing information dialog window (the Kerio WinRoute Firewall option in the Kerio Administration Console).
Click on the A new version is available for download link to open a dialog from which the new version can be downloaded.
If a new version is detected after a manual check (when the Check now button is clicked), the following dialog will be opened.
Number of the particular new version is introduced at the top.
If the Start installation after download option is enabled, installation will be started immmediately when the installation package. If the option is disabled, the downloaded file (installation package) will only be saved on the hard drive (it can be launched by the administrator whenever needed).
Use the Download now button to start download of the installation package. The dialog can be closed by the Storno button — the new version can be downloaded later.
During the download a window providing information on the download process is displayed.
This window can be closed by the OK button — it is not necessary to wait until the download is completed. The download process is not interrupted, it will be completed “on background”.
Installation file is saved to the updates subdirectory of the directory where WinRoute is installed
(typically C:\Program Files\WinRoute Firewall\updates).
If the Start installation after download is enabled, installation will be started automatically after the download is completed. If the option is disabled, installation must be run by hand. For details on the WinRoute installation refer to chapter 2.3.
